Seville
Seville is a city with a glorious past and an immense artistic heritage! The character of Don Juan comes from Seville, and the city is the setting for numerous operas such as “Carmen,” “Le nozze di Figaro,” and “Il barbiere di Siviglia.” The numerous artists who were born and worked there, its glorious history, the typical Andalusian atmosphere, the traditional festivals, and the climate are the attractive features that have contributed to its popularity and continue to attract the most visitors after Madrid and Barcelona. The imposing, fascinating cathedral alone—the third-largest Gothic church in the world after St. Paul's Basilica in Rome and St. Paul's Cathedral in London—is worth setting aside plenty of time to visit. The other two UNESCO World Heritage Sites are also located opposite: the beautiful Royal Palace Real Alcázar with its magnificent gardens and the Archivo General de Indias, where you can find all the documents relating to the discovery and colonization of America.
The opera house, the Teatro de la Maestranza, opened in 1991, is located directly on the banks of the Guadalquivir River and has excellent acoustics. It reflects the cultural richness of the city with a varied program that makes a trip to Seville well worth it.
